The principles of the work are the same in a private session as they are in group classes. We are in a kind of dialogue with the breath as we listen to the response from the movement of the breath to guide the session. In a private session, it is your choice to work with breath and movement or to work with the hands-on component of this practice.
If you choose to have a hands-on touch treatment, you will lie fully clothed on a low padded massage table, and together, we tune in to the breath as you allow it to come and go on its own. As you sense the movement of breath, I will use my presence and touch to “talk to the breath”. I will use gentle touch, sometimes light compression, sometimes lifting a leg or arm, maybe with a little stretch. We are listening to your breath respond just as you would in a group class. I might ask you a question about what you are sensing. At anytime during the session, you might want to let me know what you are experiencing, or you might prefer to be quiet. You might receive insight about yourself or a situation in your life that you may want to share, or keep to yourself.
This is an educational process that is learned through the experience of breath and integrated through the body.

sessions are one hour. I recommend that you give yourself the time you need to arrive without stress, and you give yourself space after the session so that you can transition without rushing.

In many ways, a session begins when you make the appointment. Your choice, and the intention that motivated it, is an important preparation. Are you clear about both?
A good preparation is to consider these questions:
What is the quality of your relationship with your body? How do you view your body? Is it an object you carry around? An instrument separate from you? Is it something you work on in order to prove your worth, get the attention you want, or not get the attention you don't want? Are you your body? Do you talk to each other, and what is the quality of that conversation?
What is your relationship with space? Taking up space, contributing to the space, sharing space? is space inside you or just outside of you?
be gentle with yourself as you ask these questions.
