about Jeff
Jeff Crockett was the head of voice at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco for over 20 years, and for over 10 years he was a regular guest faculty member at the Accademia Nazionale Silvio d'Amico in Rome, Italy. He was on the faculty at USC and has been a guest teacher at Columbia University, DePaul University, the University of Maryland, and Stanford University. In addition to his private practice, he currently teaches at NYU.
His article on Middendorf Breathwork, published in the Voice and Speech Review, has become a chapter in the book, Vocal Traditions: Training in the Performing Arts.
During most of his career he has worked primarily with actors, but now, his private practice includes a wide range of people. In both group and individual sessions, he is interested in helping people align with their wholeness and access their innate resources of power and creativity.
Jeff has developed this work from over 35 years of teaching breath, movement and voice. He trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London where he received an advanced diploma in voice studies (distinction). It was there that he began studying the Alexander Technique and other forms of movement and breath work. He received his certification to teach the F.M. Alexander Technique from the Alexander Training Institute of Los Angeles in 1995.
In 1997 he was introduced to Ilse Middendorf's work and began the professional training in 2001, eventually becoming a certified Middendorf practitioner.
